The Hummingbird Congress

At my humble abode we have a “sweet pot” for the benefit of hummingbirds. Their atrocious behavior is a constant struggle between greed and hostile aggression. When one goes to the sweet pot he is attacked by several who have been sitting across the aisle—er, ah, up in a tree, watching for his move.

They all claim the pot as their own and spend most of their time and energy guarding it and trying to garner its contents for themselves.

The result of this savage melee is that all are losers. For a while the melee is fun to watch but the participants never seem to learn how destructive their behavior is and it becomes a disturbing spectacle.
